Apples!!

This week we had an apple theme for our classroom! :)

We talked about how apples aren't just red. We made yellow apple, red apple, and green apple crafts! We even talked about John (Johnny Appleseed) Chapman and made cooking pot headbands, to celebrate his birthday!

Monday, we painted a paper plate yellow, we used the handprints as a leaf, and added a brown stem. We attached a song about an apple to the tune of: "I'm a Little Teapot".

Tuesday, we talked about apples being red and decided for the kiddos to make an "inside the apple" craft.

Wednesday, we painted a green apple.

Thursday, we made tye-dyed apples by coloring a coffee filter with markers and wetting the filter to give it the tye-dye looked. We cut out the middle of an apple and placed the filter between the papers to display the apple. We added the Johnny Appleseed Prayer.

Friday, we made headbands. The kiddos painted their apples to attach to the pot, and again, we included the Johnny Appleseed Prayer.

What a fun week this was.. however, next week, I'm sure the kids will have a lot of fun because we will talk about DINOSAURS!! :)

Blessings,
Sherry :)

Pet Week!

What a tremendous success with Pet Week this week!! :)

We talked about different pets and what they ate. Some of the children in the class shared stories. One little boy shared with us that his sister ate dog food! We told him not to tell anyone else, she might wouldn't like that to get out. We talked about birds, dogs, fish, bunnies, and even cats! We did discover that "Hot Dogs" weren't really pets!! :)  We talked about how birdies do not eat doggy bones. We also talked about how kitty cats do not eat birdie and rabbit food! :)

The kiddos had a lot of fun. We were able to pull out some special pet finger plays that were done on the felt board. The special story of "Scat the Cat" was one of their favorites! :)

On Monday, we made the footprint birds in the cage. I think the one hanging from the ceiling looked best! :)

On Tuesday, we made the "expandable" dogs.

For Wednesday, we made goldfish hand prints. We had each child name their goldfish!

Thursday, we made cute little "hoppy" bunnies. We painted the bunnies.

For Friday, we made some adorable cat hand prints. (All the patterns, even the border was found on bing.com. (Oh how I love this site for clip are and coloring pages!!) Each child was able to decorate their kitty bowl of food in any color they wanted!

Next week is apples!!
Hope you're Blessed with a fantastic weekend! :)

Love and Blessings,
Sherry :)

Western Theme!

This past week, at school, we had a Western Theme.

We made our very own bandannas with fabric paint and men's handkerchiefs.

We also made armadillo arm bands from an armadillo pattern and a toilet paper roll!

The kiddos painted a with bingo markers a boot pattern found on bing.com. On the back, we hot glued wooden clothespins and a button magnet to hold art work made for the year.  Each chld in the class was able to make one of these.

I played around with some fonts and typed up this "Wanted" Poster for the children. We took a picture of each child wearing a cowboy hat. Our children are scheduled to come to school on different days, and this is a craft that the kiddos really didn't participate in (except for having their picture taken) This was mainly for the parents from us. It took us a couple days to make the boots, so the children still were able to take home a craft they made.

On the last day of the week, we had the children to create a cowboy scene using a stamps and stamp pad.

Everyone is adjusting to our new school year. The crying is getting less and less, during drop off. Everyone has realized school is a lot of fun.

I truly hope, if you are a teacher, whether in home, at a Church, or in the public, that you are as Blessed as we are to have such amazing parents and are able to have the full support that you can count on for your class!!

Until next week,
Sherry :)

Back To School!!!

We're finally back to school!!

It felt awesome to be back  in the classroom. We have some awesome kids this year.

So far, the most requested (from the kiddos) in our classroom is the Little Old Lady That Swallowed the Fly "trashcan" story. Our version of the story, the lady cries instead of dies. They love the shape eater, and the other special (felt board) stories, as well, but the lady is the most requested! There are plastic pieces inside the little old lady. There is a rubbery plastic fly, spider, a styrofoam bird, a little pet shop cat and dog, a hard plastic goat, a cow, and of course the horse! As I tell the story, I place each animal in the swinging trashcan lid (her mouth). All little old lady items were purchased at the Dollar Tree, except for the Little Pet Shop items and they were purchased at Dollar General and Roses.

This week (our first week back) we started on the September parts of our All About Me books! We also managed to squeeze in a few other crafts too. We started on Tuesday, with Monday being a holiday.

The first day of school, we made hand prints to hang on the wall.. We had 12 first day of school pictures to capture as well.

The second day, we had the kiddos decorate their own backpacks with a little song that we attached. We had about 1 kiddo came to school this day for the first time, and we caught them up on their first day of school craft, as well. We also took a first day of school picture.

The third day of school we made 25 Grandparent Day Surprises. (2 per child, except 1 and they only needed 1) We had two kiddos whose first day of school was this day, and we caught them up on their first day of school craft along with their first day of school picture.

The fourth day of school, we made the Crayon Box that talked craft and caught 2 people up on their Grandparent's Day Surprises.

We definitely had an awesome first week of school and are truly looking forward to the rest of the school year! :)

Next week, we will begin our Western Crafts! :) We also have a few kiddos that need to catch up on their All About Me Books! :)

Many Blessings until next week (hopefully)
Sherry :)
